Big Rush Cast

Big Rush Cast surprised us. On the surface it looks like another endless runner, but the moment you learn the rhythm of its dash system it turns into something you keep coming back to. You control a little character sprinting through stylized city blocks, and every tap either dashes forward or slides under an obstacle. The trick is that dashing builds up a meter, and casting it at the right instant clears whole rows of obstacles at once.

Control-wise it's a one-thumb game, which is exactly what you want on a phone. We played long sessions on the bus and it never once made our hand cramp. The levels get faster gradually, so it teaches you without a wall of tutorials. What we liked most is that failure never feels cheap — when we crashed, it was almost always because we mistimed a dash, not because the game cheated us.

There's a light progression layer with new characters and route themes, but none of it gets in the way. You can ignore all of it and just chase a better run. After a week we still had the app open more than we planned, which is the best compliment we can give an arcade game.
